Thulimbah
State School provides an educational program based on the Australian Curriculum
(ACARA). In 2024 we implemented the Version 9 Australian Curriculum in English and Mathematics, and will implement the other learning areas as the Version 9 options are developed.
Our timetable has been adapted to ensure maximum learning time for English (literacy) and Mathematics (numeracy). We actively align all learning areas to enrich and enhance student learning and knowledge. The integration of content and concepts from different learning areas provides a deeper, life-long understanding.
We actively use the multi-year classroom as an approach to address individual student needs and varying levels of understanding and progress. Peer learning and peer support in learning promotes ownership of one's own education.
Technology
At Thulimbah State School technology is an integral tool for teaching and learning. The allocation of laptops for each student in year 3 to year 6 supports the understanding of how to maintain devices for optimum use. Students utilise technologies and programs required for higher education and the workforce such as:
- emails between staff and students, and between students
- use of audio software for tasks such as dictation
- create digital works with embedded tables, animations, imagery and audio
- dedicated typing program to skill students to touch type
- online programs to practice and consolidate math concepts, spelling, etc
- subscribing to online programs which students can access from home
- iPads are used to complement digital tools.
Thulimbah State School is accessing the Queensland Governments initiative, Student Technology Equity Partnership (STEP), to enhance learning by providing take-home devices for families in need.
