Oxley House Champions for 2018

As seems to have become the tradition, at least in the last five years or so, we were greeted with a cold, frosty morning for athletics last Wednesday, with the promise of a clear, sunny and eventually quite warm day ahead. Which is exactly what we had. The frost burnt off just in time for the first event – the 200m. Students 8 years and above competed in this event, once around the oval. The same students then backed up to go four times round the oval in the gruelling 800m event. By the end of the 800m, several records had tumbled and many more did by the end of the day. Students next moved into sprinting mode where all students sprinted over 60m, 80m or 100m according to their
age group.
Field rotations followed the morning tea as all students rotated through; high jump, long jump and shot put. All students continued to give their very best and the records continued to tumble. By lunch everyone had earned their BBQ lunch. A big thank you to the P&C for cooking a delicious lunch and providing the energy required for the final session.
The two houses were close in points following the individual events. Honours were shared across the team events, with Oxley winning 3 of the 4 ball games events while Cook won both relays, including an amazingly close finish in the senior relay. After 8 legs of a relay, the two teams were separated by no more than a few centimetres. The parents/staff against students relay finished with a clear win to the students. There may have been the odd stumble among the parent/staff teams, but overall fun was definitely the winner in this event. Finally, it was time for tug o war and thankfully, again, everyone got through uninjured!
Congratulations to Oxley on a narrow victory over Cook and also to all the age champions. Well done to all students for their excellent effort throughout the day and also to those who set new Thulimbah State School records.
